As I’ve mentioned in other articles this week, I’m writing these words while I’m laid up with the Flu and under quarantine. Prior to today, I was too sick to do anything, even to sit behind a keyboard. I just laid on the couch and watched movies, and the occasional TV program. One of those programs was DESTINATION TRUTH on the Travel Channel. Host Josh Gates traveled to Bishopsville, North Carolina, to investigate the case of the Lizardman of Scape Ore Swamp. He promptly dismissed the whole thing as a hoax. That’s mighty poor Science, Josh. You’re usually better than that.
Gates had some footprints analyzed by a wildlife expert, and the expert pronounced the tracks were fakes. Okay. Busted. They’re fakes. What about the eyewitness testimonies? Did Gates subject all the witnesses to lie-detector tests? Nope. He just branded them liars. Typically the guy manages to keep a mostly open mind about things unproven, and the case of the Lizardman is nothing if not unproven. Neither has it been debunked, not even remotely. The only thing that can be stated with scientific accuracy at this point is that the FOOTPRINTS are fakes. Any statement beyond that is fallacious. It also bears repeating that eyewitness testimony is considered viable evidence in a court of law, so unless Gates can provide some PROOF that the people who claim to have encountered Lizardman are lying, he’s being a closed-minded hidebound. Shame on you, Josh Gates!
