THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT. I like it. It’s snazzy. Maybe a tad long for a mainstream studio picture, but evocative. And fitting, considering the movie’s subject matter. According to the official synopsis: “THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT reveals a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.” (They misspelled “defense” but I corrected it for them. Hey, typos happen, inevitable as death and taxes.) I had read previously that this is the case the hit franchise would tackle next. While I was hoping to see the werewolf case investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren served up next, this one will suffice, if it continues the trend of improving results demonstrated by the past two CONJURING films. Part two was much superior to the first one, in my opinion, as I found the first one too predictable. Hopefully part three will be the best yet.
The werewolf did make an appearance, you may recall, in last year’s ANNABELLE COMES HOME.
The next CONJURING movie is scheduled to open in September of 2020.
