Channing Tatum and the Universal Monsters

Uh-oh. This doesn’t sound good. Not at all. Rumors are that a new Universal Monsters movie is in the works, and that Channing Tatum will be starring in it. That could mean that Tatum could be playing the part of the Monster. Even if he isn’t though, even if he’s only playing a supporting role, that’s still cause for concern. Why? Because Channing Tatum cannot act. The only thing I ever saw him in where he was any good was HAIL, CAESAR!, and even then he didn’t do anything to stand out.

According to Deadline, the film will be “a modern-day, tongue-in-cheek thriller inspired by Universal’s classic monster legacy…The project is a bold genre reinvention of one of the studio’s most beloved characters from the Monsters Universe.”

Ugh. That sounds positively awful. Please don’t screw the pooch on this one, Universal! You’ve already had THE INVISIBLE MAN, and that was a homerun, and you’ve got Ryan Gosling lined up to star as The Wolfman. Please don’t run it off the rails already!

No word yet on which of the beloved Universal Monsters they’re planning to throw under the bus. I guess it’s safe to say it won’t be The Wolfman, but it’s bummer news, whichever icon they’re planning to sully. Man, this news has ruined my morning. Dammit. Let’s hope this one doesn’t make it past the planning stage.
