Once upon a time, Horror maestro John Carpenter was supposed to be making a remake of the classic Universal chiller THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. For whatever reasons that film never got made. But maybe, just maybe, we can change that from “never got made” to “hasn’t been made YET”. With the incredible success, both critically and financially, of THE INVISIBLE MAN earlier this year—It seems so long ago, doesn’t it? Those halcyon days just before the ‘Rona hit, when we knew there was this virus over in China but didn’t worry overly much about it?—the Universal Monsters are hot properties again, and the proposed “Dark Universe” is alive and well (they just aren’t calling it that anymore). Why would they not make that CREATURE flick, and why would they not give it to Carpenter, if he was still interested—and it seems like he is!
We can assume that Carpenter still has that script for a new CREATURE flick that he wrote some years back, and we still have the designs, too, for what the new CREATURE would have looked like—and possibly WILL look like! As the writer of this linked article said, why would Blumhouse NOT want to do this movie with John Carpenter?! It’s John Freakin’ Carpenter!
