It’s a big week for Ted Bundy. Probably he isn’t aware of it, burning in Hell as he surely is; it’s doubtful they have the Internet in Hell. But it’s a big week for news concerning the sexual sadist serial killer, anyway. First comes word that a new movie is on the works, set to star Zac Efron of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL fame. I confess that my initial reaction upon hearing this was probably akin to yours, an eye roll and a chuckle. Zac Efron? Really? This is right up there with Hilary Duff playing Bonnie in that Bonnie and Clyde movie, I said to myself. I want to be fair, though. Supposedly Efron wants to distance himself from his tweenybopper pedigree and prove that he can be a serious actor. He might surprise us. There was a time when the idea of Heath Ledger doing serious Drama would have made us scoff, and look how that turned out. Efron is really gonna have to bring it if he doesn’t want to end up the object of derision, but maybe he does have what it takes. We’ll see.
In other news, Bundy’s childhood home is haunted. As far as we know, Bundy never killed anybody there. As far as we know, he hadn’t started on his career as a serial killer yet. (There is a possibility that he might have killed one neighborhood kid, but it hasn’t been proven.) Was there already something evil attached to Bundy as a child, something that remains in the house in which he grew up? Or is this just so much ballyhoo from a savvy but opportunistic realtor?
