British Folklore, Mapped

I don’t know who created this piece of Art. If it was you and you’d like credit, just give us a holler and we’ll be happy to oblige. Or if you know the person responsible, give them a holler and tell them to give us a holler. Or you can just credit them yourself. Whatevs.

I really love pieces like this, combining the mystique of maps in general with Cryptozoology and folklore. It shows that merry olde England sure has its share of beasties and things that go bump in the night, especially for such a small place, relatively speaking. And our dear friend the werewolf is well represented, too. There’s the Wulver up in the Shetland Islands off the coast of Scotland (smiling, appropriately—the Wulver is said to be friendly—and I love that he’s wearing a kilt), and Old Stinker is on there, and a fearsome (okay, not so much) Black Shuck with flaming red eyes. And though it’s an ABC (Alien Big Cat) and not a canine, the Beast of Bodmin belongs there, too.

Some of the entities depicted I’d never heard of before, and I pride myself on being a folklorist of no mean skill. The Buggane. The Puca. The Nuckelavee. I’m gonna have to read up on those!
