Bree Despain’s ‘The Dark Divine’ Headed to the Big Screen

That’s right readers, another werewolf book is being made into a movie! This time it is Bree Despain’s The Dark Divine, the first book in her werewolf trilogy. Check out the book’s synopsis:

I stood back and watched his movements. Daniel had that way about him that could shut me down in an instant. . . . I kicked the gravel a couple of times and worked up my courage again. “Tell me . . . I mean . . . why did you come back? Why now, after all this time?”

Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared—the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude she’ll stay away.

As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel’s dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.

From what I hear, The Dark Divine is like Twilight, but instead of the awkward girl falling in love with a sparkly vampire, she falls in love with a werewolf.

Ralph Winter (X-Men) and Terry Botwick have acquired rights to Bree Despain’s trilogy. According to them, “The project has strong romantic appeal to the young Twilight audience. Bree Despain is a talented voice with a loyal following.”

Since this is still in the super early stage, there is absolutely no other news on the film. Lame, I know.

So, what do you guys think? Have you read the book?

Han’t read the books but hope it doesn’t “domesticate” werewolves like twilight turned vampires into sparkly “vegetarians”.

BTW has anyone noticed how Twilight kinda supports stalking and insecure, controlling emo guys as the perfect boyfriend? I mean this Edward guy follows her arround, stalks her without her knowledge, sneaks into her room when she is asleep, has her “kidnapped” to keep her from hanging with another guy, dumps her without explaining and then walks right back into her life and becomes even more clingy? He also gets all emo melodrama and tries to kill himself without verifying for sure the girl he dumped is dead! And girls seem to love this (sorry twilight fans). I do not want to see any Edward the werewolf movies that’s for sure.

Lol I agree 100% with you Paul!!!! The series was good for some romancing but after thinking about it, you are absolutely right!! But that won’t change my view on the books >,0

I am sooo excited for this! I love THE DARK DIVINE. It’s a great new twist on the origin of werewolves while still remaining true to traditional werewolf lore. It drives me crazy that everyone is comparing this book to TWILIGHT without even reading it first. Daniel is an awesome character, (definitely not a neutered wolf-boy) and Grace is NOTHING like Bella. (As in, Grace is strong, independent, funny, and NOT whiney.) THE DARK DIVINE might “appeal” to the same audience as TWILIGHT, but this story is so much better, darker, with a lot stronger characters. If you loved TWILIGHT, you’ll love this book, but if you hated TWILIGHT, you’ll probably still love this book. And with the X-Men guys behind it, I’m sure the movie will be awesome!

I have not read the books but from this I still feel unsure it would be anything I’d read or see. I have gone through too many paranormal romance type a books even when they are not labeled such because I will try reading almost anything with werewolves. From the snapshot above this Grace sounds kinda Bella-ish or at least romance novelish to me and the cover does not give me confidence either. But for those who like the genre they may be a good read. I fear this type of book may be overwhelming good the old horror genre though.

I read the book, finished it in Four days, it really is an amazing and addictive read, I was very happy with the results and sad that the book had finished, I’m definetly going to check out any other book that she has written. I actually found out about this book on here and went straight to the public library to find it. Thanks for that!

The Dark Divine is actually going to be a trilogy. The 2nd installment was just released in late December, 2010. I highly recommend that you check it out if you enjoyed the first book so much, it’s incredible! It is absolutely breathtaking and exciting. Happy Reading :-)

I agree with the many of you about twilight. I mean, the book was good when I was 13 and it wasn’t so popular, but now that I’m 16 and its been pointed out to me how creepy the themes are, Twilight has become a fleeting bubble in the back of my head. That being said, I am fully hooked to a new, more mature series. Vampire Academy! A good book that brings the “Rose Hathaway AKA smartass” in all of us. It has alot of swearing, partying and Rose(the main character) has a wierd crush on her combat instructer. But hey, No sparkly, whiney vampires here! I suggest the series strongly.

I have read the first two books in The Dark Divine Trilogy-The last installment probably won’t be released until December, considering The Lost Saint (the 2nd book) was only just released in late December of 2010. And it always excites me when I hear a book that I have greatly enjoyed will be making its way to the big screen. Its a different way to further explore into the world of the story-visually, mostly. I’m sure it won’t be a disappointment! *crosses fingers*

:-)

The books are not like twilight, in my opinion. To be honest, I thought it was MUCH better. Grace does NOT fall in love with two guys. Instead its a fight between a brother and a lover. There’s so many Vs. (Jude Vs. Daniel; Daniel Vs. His dad; Jude vs. his dad; Talbot vs. Daniels dad; Talbot vs. Daniel; Grace Vs; Jude’s new personality) The only factors between Twilight and The Dark Divine is the intense mystery. I love the Dark Divine!
