BLACKMANE Chapter Thirteen

I have a friend now. I am not all alone in this world.

My friend tells me his name is Joseph. He says that he is not afraid of me, but I can tell that he is lying, sometimes. But I would not harm this man, Joseph, unless I were very hungry or he attacked me. But he cannot know this. He sees me and he is afraid sometimes.

Joseph has explained to me about God. He reads to me from his book, his Bible. He tells me that God is the great being that created this world and all living things. But I do not believe it. I have never seen this God, or smelled his scent. I tell Joseph that God did not create me. Joseph says that God’s ways are strange. He says that perhaps God guided the hands of the men who created me. I do not believe this.

I understand now the way in which I came to exist. I have read much of the process, since Joseph taught me how to read. It makes more sense to me than Joseph’s Bible. I cannot see DNA any more than I can see God, but I can see blood. I know that men, guided by the one who called herself my mother, took blood from a man and blood from a lion, and that is how they created me.

Joseph has taught me how to write as well. I ask questions of him this way. I ask Joseph what is the difference between these men and his God? If a woman created me, then is that woman God, at least for me? Perhaps God is a woman. I think my questions also frighten Joseph.

I have written these words since the last time Joseph came to visit me. I will show them to him when I see him again. I hope that it will make him happy that I have learned so well.
