Awesome Cast For The Mortal Instruments Adaptation Unveiled!

Filming has begun for City of Bones, the movie adaptation of the first book in Cassandra Clare’s bestselling Mortal Instruments series. Fans of the books have been waiting  ages for dish on who will star in the movie adaptation, and with filming underway, we finally have a set cast, and it’s a fantastic one!

Check out the film details and cast below!

For those new to the series, City of Bones follows Clary Fray, a teenage girl who tumbles into the supernatural world when she visits a club called Pandemonium and witnesses a murder. Following this horrific event, Clary’s mother, Jocelyn, is kidnapped by a demon. She then calls on those who she saw at the club and asks them to help her. In the search for her mother and the Mortal Cup, Clary makes decisions harder than any she has ever made. She falls in love, struggles with her best friend, and becomes the person her mother feared she would become.

The focus in the series is on demons and the hunters who kill them (known in the book as Shadowhunters). There are both vampires and werewolves in the books as well, but they aren’t a part of the story until much later. It’s possible that they may switch the movies up and give the werewolves a bigger role earlier on, but I kind of doubt that. I assure you though, the werewolves do have a major role in the series in later books, so if multiple films are made, then us werewolf fans will get to see it all. For now though, only one werewolf has been cast, and he is one of the main characters throughout the entire series. Check out the casting below!

Here’s a look at the main cast:

Lily Collins has been cast as the lead Clary Fray. Now, before you fans go off on her hair, it was dyed red for the film, so worry not, she will look like Clary.

Jamie Campbell Bower has been cast as the leading male role of Jace Wayland. This is the one bit of casting I am not happy with. While reading the books, this is SO not how I pictured Jace.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who is my absolute favorite actor, has been cast as the villain Valentine Morgenstern. I am beyond happy that he got this role, he will perform flawlessly.

Kevin Zegers
has been cast as Jace’s best friend Alec Lightwood.

Perfectly cast as Clary’s best friend Simon Lewis is Robert Sheehan.

Jemima West will play the role of the gorgeous Isabelle Lightwood. She looks perfect for this role.

And last, but not least, is Aidan Turner, who will play the part of werewolf Luke.

Godfrey Gaohas has been cast as the cocky, but lovable, Magnus Bane.

I am thrilled with the casting for City of Bones, well, except for Jace. But the others are great. I am really looking forward to this movie, I think it may be better than the book in many ways. I know, that’s book lover blasphemy, but the author really really struggled with her characters. The story was fantastic, but the characters and character development were terrible. I have never hated characters as much as I did in this series. So I look forward to seeing the actors bringing the characters to life in a way that the author failed miserably at.

Are you guys looking forward to this movie?

  1. Four words: Harry Potter Fan Fiction. Specifically the Draco Trilogy.

That’s why these characters felt so hollow, even if the plot/universe was interesting. Most of the reviewers on Goodreads have spotted this about the series, and like them, I won’t support a practice like this. Using someone else’s characters in another story, changing their names, and then selling it.

  2. I am super ok with the girls but, except “Luke”, none of the characters that were chosen to play the boys thrilled me 3p and THAT please tell me won’t be Jace :(( really ?? Am I the only one normal here ? BTW. I adored the books :* Love u writter :x
