‘Autumn Moon’ by Slade Grayson

There aren’t many new werewolf books hitting stores lately, so when I got an email telling me about a recently released werewolf novel, Autumn Moon by Slade Grayson, I had to share it with all the werewolf lovers here.

Book description:

“Tanneheuk, Montana appears to be an idyllic small town. There’s no crime, no poverty, and no racism. The town is overseen by a small group known as “the elders,” a tribe of people who have watched over Tanneheuk for hundreds of years. The elders are shapeshifters – werewolves – and they protect the townspeople from the corrupting influence of outsiders. In return for their protection, they only require one thing: Every year, on the first day of Autumn, they want to hunt a human. Enter a young minister with a checkered past. To him, the shapeshifters are nothing more than demons. He convinces the town that the hunt is a sin against God, and that they should stand up to the elders. Throw in a family of con artists hiding out in Tanneheuk, a female pot-smoking deputy, an unlikely romance, too many guns…and it may be Judgment Day for Tanneheuk.”

Autumn Moon is definitely not your average werewolf book, that’s for sure, but does it’s rather unique storyline make it worth a shot? What do you think, do you see yourself picking up a copy of this one? Personally, I am on the fence. It sounds interesting enough, but it looks like it may have a big dose of religion and such in it and that’s not really my thing. I think I may just pass on this one.

If you’re interested in Autumn Moon you can find more information on it here at the author’s website. You can also read the first chapter here.

  1. well the first chapter was actually really interesting… but if they really are going to take this story into a religious context, then I’m not going to read it,
shame it started out so good ><

  2. As long as it doesn’t end up like 99% of all the latest paranormal novels, it should be good. I get so tired of that cookie-cutter “male werewolf, female human/werewolf/vampire-werewolf hybrid, male knows instantly she is his mate for life, she can’t stay away for some reason blah, blah, blah crap”. I’m really starting to wish White Wolf hadn’t ended their old World Of Darkness franchise, cuz their Werewolf The Apocalypse novels were just what I wanted when it comes to werewolves: more than just human or wolf shapes, action, adventure, and fighting the good fight, not some lame romance novel.

  3. I’m religious and I still love werewolves and other supernatural things so why can’t other people? Just because and book has a religious aspect doesn’t mean you should’nt read it.

    1. I never said religion was bad or that people shouldn’t read it because it has religion, don’t put words in my mouth. I personally do not enjoy religious books, I have no interest in religion, so I have no intention of reading this book. It’s not because I am anti-religion, it’s simply because it’s not something I have interest in. I have absolutely no issues those those who are religious, I just don’t like reading religious books and there’s nothing wrong with that. I also never said religion and fans of the supernatural can’t mix, that’s absurd, once again, don’t put words into people’s mouths, it’s insulting. I am a firm believer in to each their own, people can believe whatever they like and there’s is nothing wrong with that. I wasn’t attacking religion in any way, so don’t act like I was. If you are religious then that’s good for you, I have no problem with that, but don’t accuse me of saying something I didn’t say.

  4. Moonlight, thanks for mentioning my book.
The book doesn’t really hit you over the head with religion, other than the fact that the new town minister is a strong believer in the Christian faith and feels that anything that does not fit into his belief system must be satanic. The werewolves (who prefer to be called “shapeshifters”) have their own beliefs, essentially that they are a step above humanity, and they are not happy that an outsider is attempting to upset the status quo.
There’s a good size cast of characters in the book and I cover several different ideas and themes. Basically…what happens when an outsider enters a closed community and causes a disruption? Answer: bad, bad things.
Check out the first chapter on my website, or read the reviews and “Look Inside” on Amazon before you decide. I think you’ll like it.
And thanks again for the mention!

  5. I read Autum Moon and it was awesome. Religion is only a small piece of the story. In no way did I feel preached at or urged to retreat to the nearest church. The story moves quickly, the characters are well written, and it was really hard to put down. It’s priced to sell in either ebook or soft cover so what do you have to lose?
