Are You Ready For THE TERROR?!

In 1847, a British expedition set out to penetrate the Arctic ice and discover the fabled “Northwest Passage.” They became separated, trapped in the ice, and the crews, well, no one knows. (No one knows the exact ways in which they died, I should say. That they died is a certainty.) This real-life scenario inspired author Dan Simmons to write THE TERROR, a dark, apocalyptic thriller that explains what happened to those men, as they are picked off one by one by a gigantic furry beast that is either an ancient Inuit demon imprisoned in the Arctic Circle, an unknown species related to, but much larger than and more aggressive than, the Polar bear–or, somehow, both. It’s a crackling good novel and should make for an exciting television experience.

I’ll be watching for the Monster. I always watch for the Monster. Go to the official site for the show to see some pictures and read about the project. I’d also recommend you get yourself a copy of the novel and read it in preparation. I look forward to seeing the bleakly beautiful landscapes evoked by the book brought to life on the screen, and getting to see the Monster given flesh. (I hope this isn’t one of the examples of filmmakers gypping their audience by NEVER showing their Monster, which is as much of a misstep as showing their Monster too often.) THE TERROR debuts on AMC on March 26th and will run for ten episodes.
