Anyone Remember Gravedale High?

Always on the hunt for werewolf movies and TV shows I was scanning the net for some unknown goodies and that’s when I stumbled across a show with werewolves in it, it was a show that came out in the 1990s, a show I had never heard, titled Gravedale High. Curious as to why this show isn’t mentioned on any werewolf website and why it surpassed my radar all these years I did some digging.

This old NBC cartoon show, which aired in 1990 and ended in 1991, revolves around the misadventures of human teacher Max Schneider (voiced by Rick Moranis), who has unknowingly taken a job at Gravedale High, a school for naughty monsters, near the city of Midtown. Schneider, the only human in the school, is in charge of a group of ghoulish teenagers that are latest-generation versions of classic movie monsters (many of which had appeared in movies from Universal). Most of these monstrous students are disruptive, disinterested, or totally obsessed with school. It was the class that not even the monster teachers wanted.

Max’s class consists of Vinnie the vampire, Duzer the gorgon, Blanche the zombie, Frankentyke the monster, Reggie the werewolf, Cleofatra the mummy, J.P. the zombie, Gill the swamp creature, and Sid the invisible boy. There is also a dog-boy on the show named Rover who apparently speaks in a manner similar to Scooby-Doo.

This show sounds awfully familiar to me. Probably because Gravedale High is the older, rougher version of the new and cutesy cartoon series Monster High.

Anyway, the cartoon is only 13 episodes long since it was canceled pretty early on. In spite of its short run I can’t believe I never knew of this show, I was (and still am) obsessed with cartoons. Luckily you can find Gravedale High video on Youtube, unfortunately they’re really low quality, which is a pain.

So, do any of you remember this cartoon? If so, what did you think?

  1. To be honest, you did cover Reggie from your blog article – The Best of Cartoon Werewolves

    I think you forgot him.

Anyways, I did see a couple episodes of this, but quickly grew bored with the whole highschool themed toons that were out there…. Space Galaxy high…. Beverly Hills Teens… there were several, and if it wasn’t Teens and School, its toons as babies.

I didn’t like that made Reggie look like a nerd and not “cool.”

    1. I didn’t write that post, we have a few writers here (my posts always end with “Moonlight”). I completely missed that old post, my bad.

    1. I work on both sites and I like both. Each have their pros and cons, I like them for different reasons :)

  2. No, I don’t, but from the looks of it I wouldn’t of, now ghostbusters I was a big fan of, I will always remeber the the vampire-werewolf fight and them both turning into the other, and the werewolf girl on the back of their car waving and similing.
