Universal Pictures is releasing the classic An American Werewolf in London once again. They released the Full Moon Edition a little over a year ago, and now they are coming out with just a plain DVD edition on September 4, 2012. At the moment there is no word on whether or not this DVD will have any bonus features, but considering how the DVD is under $15, I am guessing there won’t be many (or any) extras. This is just a small release for those looking to add the classic to their collection.
About An American Werewolf in London:
“While wandering the English moors on vacation, college yanks David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) happen upon a quaint pub with a mysterious patronage who warn them not to leave the road when walking after dark. Irreverent of such advice as characters in horror films always are, the two decide to find a short cut….David wakes up in the hospital with a nasty bite wound to his shoulder; the freshly deceased, and rapidly decomposing, Jack arrives soon after to deliver the grim news that, unless he commits suicide, David will become a werewolf when the moon is full. David dismisses the encounter as a hallucination, but all indicators point to lycanthrope; evenings of barking and bloodletting follow closely behind.”
Yeah, we all know the movie, we know it well. Ever since its release in 1981 this werewolf flick has been a fan favorite.
Anyone here planning on picking up the DVD next week? Or do you already own one of the other editions?

I actually have a copy that was a combo DVD / HD-DVD — obviously the latter was and is useless to me, but the DVD was fine and included a few extras, including a bizarre silent outtake with director John Landis loitering on the set of See You Next Wednesday.
Was just thinking of re-watching AAWiL… somehow it always feels appropriate in the autumn. :)
I already own a copy of this DVD, but if there’s any significantly different, I may pick up for any bonus features.
Otherwise I’ll look and see if there’s anything else werewolf related released on that day too.
Why would they make another addition? Seriously! Got it, loved, really don’t need a new one. Strange thing is the movie was reccomended to me my my mother. Go figure.
Never bought this. Watched it a few hundred thousand times! “An American Werewolf In London” has been a favorite, & on dvd? This is a serious *want for me. i know i am a bit late to the party as this came out last year, but i am ready for the heat of this summer to end already, & looking forward to fall, when the werewolves roam. And i do hold out hope that someday this fantastic film will be revisited, either with a new prequel, or a sequel, or a remake. i actually love it that much. However, i completely discount the Julie Delpy & Tom Everett Scott vehicle “American Werewolf in Paris” & in my mind’s eye, strike it from the record. CGI is just… played out.
