Hell, yeah. I’m all for it, provided the level of quality established by the first two films can be maintained.
A QUIET PLACE PART TWO has been a big hit thus far, following GODZILLA VS. KONG as that much-needed second shot of epinephrine into the heart of the movie theater business, proving that the box office is on the rebound after Covid. It made $69 million domestic in its first week. That’s even better than it was predicted to do BEFORE the ‘Rona pandemic hit. It’s a given that there would be a sequel. But will John Krasinski have any interest in doing a third film? We’ve received no word on that yet, but plans are underway for a third film nonetheless. Not a sequel proper, but a standalone film set in the same world, based on an idea from Krasinski but with Jeff Nichols writing and directing. It even has a release date already: March 31, 2023.
Genre fans will recognize Nichols as the writer-director of TAKE SHELTER and the masterful and heartbreaking SHOTGUN STORIES (both starring Michael Shannon). This next installment in the A QUIET PLACE franchise, then, is in very capable hands.
Theoretically we could get a whole series of standalone films from different creators set in the world Krasinski created. And, as I mentioned above, that would be a good thing, as long as they’re crafted with the same love and dedication of the first two films.
