Alternative Halloweens and the Bride of Frankenstein

Halloween is going to look and feel a little different this year, what with the real-world Horror we’ve all been living through since March. (Look, whatever your opinion regarding the deadliness of the virus, and we must concede that it has an over 99% survival rate, thank the Almighty, there are still over 200,000 dead Americans thus far, and the pandemic has created true horror in the way it has shut down everyday life for hundreds of millions.) But while trick-or-treating may be cancelled in lots of places, and the standard haunted house experience, too, Halloween will still, like in the case with Christmas and the Grinch, come anyway. Universal Orlando’s annual Halloween Horror Nights got cancelled this year, but they’re trying something new. Or they tried something new. By the time you are reading this—at the time of my writing this, in fact—the two haunted houses, themed on UNIVERSAL MONSTERS: THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN LIVES and REVENGE OF THE TOOTH FAIRY, have already taken place. But these were only test-runs. Test-runs for what? To see how much business they’d make, I’m sure. And to see if they could do it all safely.

Let’s hope these proved successful, as that would mean they’ll be brought back. At the very least it shows that exhibitors are thinking of ways to still bring us Halloween entertainment this year.

UPDATE: The weekend musta been successful, as the haunted attractions will remain open throughout October!
