‘A Werewolf Boy’ is Now on Netflix!
“Summoned by an unexpected phone call, an elderly woman visits the country cottage she lived in as a child. Memories of an orphan boy she knew… come flooding back to her.”
I know this is going to sound absolutely awful, but I really wish Korean TV was as good as Korean movies. In terms of films, they are amazing; often artistic and beautifully filmed, and A Werewolf Boy is no exception. The trailer above is okay, but it doesn’t do that much to really set much of a tone. The film is told in retrospect, from the memories of an older woman, Suni; when she gets a phone call and must travel back to Korea, to a large country home she lived in with her widowed mother and siblings. The mother reveals to a bunch of completely uncouth neighbors, that they had to move for Suni, because she has something wrong with her lungs, which prevents her from attending school.
The house her family moved into was the home of an old man, say the neighbors, who had a heart attack, and kept a bunch of wolves or wild dogs in the barn, because he was doing some sort of study on them. Suni hears a noise in the barn, goes to investigate… and finds the ‘werewolf boy’ crouched in the barn. Fair warning, y’all the werewolf effects aren’t great, but that’s about the only thing that detracts from the film. Check it out, and let us know what you think in the comments.
