A QUIET PLACE PART TWO Breaks the Hundred-Million Barrier

Yes, the sequel has now topped that coveted hundred-million dollar mark, the first movie to achieve that status since the pandemic hit over a year ago. Movie theaters and the moviegoing experience are almost back to normal now. Huzzah! And congratulations to John Krasinski on his success. Congratulations to everyone involved in the A QUIET PLACE sequel.

But wait. If you’re like me, you, upon hearing, or reading, this news, immediately thought, “Wait a gosh-darn minute, now! What about GODZILLA VS. KONG? The first official hit since the pandemic, the movie that ushered the public back into theaters? Wasn’t it the first movie to top a hunnerd-million? Technically it still lacks a little less than a million bucks before it crosses that $100 million mark. It will cross the threshold too. It’s just that *technically* A QUIET PLACE PART TWO got there first. We shouldn’t fret over such relatively minor amounts, though, or who crossed the finish line first when the two contenders are literally neck-and-neck. Instead we should celebrate the massive success of the Horror genre in general. It was Horror that got people to return to theaters. Not sappy love stories or highfalutin artsy fare. Not lamebrain comedies or animated kiddie flicks. Not even superhero movies. Horror. Sure timing was a huge factor, but still, a win is a win.
