What is Your Favorite Werewolf Horror Movie?

Tis’ the season for terrifying horror movies! It’s Halloween month! What better way to spend these bone-chilling nights than lost in the depths of a good and scary werewolf flick? There are many werewolf films featuring ferocious beasts spreading terror in the night, but out of those many movies, which one is your favorite? What is your favorite werewolf horror movie?

In case you need a little help remembering, here’s a list of just a few of the werewolf horror films out there (there are many more):

The Howling: After a bizarre and near fatal encounter with a serial killer, a newswoman is sent to a rehabilitation center whose inhabitants may not be what they seem.

Ginger Snaps: Ginger and Brigette Fitzgerald and morbid social outcasts at their school, and fantasize about a joint suicide. One night when walking through the town they are attacked by a wild animal which is then hit by a van, but not before Ginger is bitten. Over the next month she begins acting strangely and undergoes physical changes. Everyone says it’s just her becoming a woman, but Bridgette begins to suspect otherwise.

An American Werewolf in London: Two American tourists in Britain are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists.

Dog Soldiers: A squad of British soldiers on a training exercise in the Scottish highlands find themselves battling for survival against a pack of vicious werewolves.

The Wolf Man: A practical man returns to his homeland, is attacked by a creature of folklore, and infected with a horrific disease his disciplined mind tells him can not possibly exist.

Big Bad Wolf: A college freshman named David takes some of his friends to his stepfather’s cabin, where they are attacked by a horrible beast. David and the other survivor of the massacre begin to suspect that his stepfather is in fact the beast in question.

Wild Country: Filmed in Scotland, this horror movie follows a young girl who gives birth and has to give the child up for adoption. She goes on a school hike in the Scottish highlands to try and forget her troubles. However, things take an unexpected turn when she finds an abandoned baby in a castle crypt, and the group find themselves stalked by a ferocious beast.

And there’s your list of just a few of the many werewolf horror flicks out there. Which werewolf horror movie is your favorite? Is it one of the films listed or another movie entirely?

  1. I would have to go with American Werewolf in London or Dog Soldiers. However I would also recommend the Vampire and Werewolf cross film Underworld. Most people find it a bit crap but I love it :)

  2. Dog Soldiers by farf. One of the few wolf movies that have a decent looking monster, a great story, and good gory fun!

  3. my favorite of all times has always been the howling even if the costumes nd special effects are cheesy the story nd plot kick ass nd it takes my mind to slavery whenever i watch it i like the howling better so the howling

  4. Oh God, Ginger Snaps FOREVER! It’s not just my favorite werewolf movie, it’s my favorite movie period lol. I love the films cleverness, how incredibly dark and interlaced the girls are, and in my opinion, Ginger and Bridgette are the perfect characters to turn into werewolves lol. The movie has gore, humor, attitude, a good plot, and best of all, female werewolves! That’s all I need :D

  5. Dog Soldiers was awesome, can’t wait ’til the next ones released!!! My modern one would be Rise of the Lycans, and my older one would be Curse of the Werewolf.

  6. i think dog soldiers, i thought the soldiers were going to be the werewolves,i think it was the way it was filmed what made it scary and i live in wisconsin in the woods so that did’nt help

  7. I`m pretty young :), So I have`nt seen so many werewolve movies yet. But if I should choose one, it would be Ginger snaps. It`s kind of bloody, but cool! ;)

  8. My favourite Werewolf movies (in no particular order) :

    – Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (plus other Underworld movies)
    – Werewolf: The Beast Among Us
    – Ginger Snaps 1,2,3
    – American Werewolf in London / Paris
    – Bad Moon
    – The Howling

I didn’t like Dog Soldiers. Another great movie I like is Blood & Chocolate, though its not really a horror…

  9. The best ever werewolf transformation is in An American Werewolf In London (and it was done before CGI)! The best werewolf costumes were in the original Howling (the sequels did not match up). The best story was in Dog Soldiers ( I’m sorry to here the sequel has been shelved). I have to put a mention out for Skinwalkers – which had a good story, okay creature costumes, and probably the best CGI transformations I’ve seen.

  10. Damn this is a really tough question. I loved Dog Soldiers but I also like the Ginger Snap series. I enjoyed the remake of The Wolfman too. The werewolf looked awesome in that movie. Then again I aslo like the Underwolrld movies, except for the last one. I really wasn’t feeling that movie. The only thing that was cool in that movie was the gigantic werewolf.

  11. It’s a tie between Dog Soldiers and a movie ( I forget the title) where the little boy is a werewolf in the end, after these werewolves all fight vampires. I think his family were werewolves, too.
