War Wolves

While scanning newer movie releases I came across War Wolves, a B grade made-for-TV movie that just came out on DVD this past November, even though it originally aired on the SyFy channel back in 2009.  It may be one of those low budget films, but it doesn’t actually sound too bad, that is, if you like war movies filled with werewolf action.

“Jack Ford leads a special forces unit back to the United States to hunt down Jake Gabriel, a soldier who has been infected with the werewolf virus that turns man into wolf. Little does Jack know that three of the female soldiers serving in his unit have also been infected and have already transformed into she-wolves. The she-wolves’ forces of evil and Ford’s special op forces of good, are pitted against each other in the race to save mankind from turning into wolves.”

The film stars John Saxon (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Tim Thomerson (Trancers), Michael Worth (Desperate Housewives), Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog) and Natasha Alam (True Blood).

For such a low budget film they definitely got some fairly well-known actors. John Saxon, Tim Thomerson and Adrienne Barbeau have been in hundreds of big movies and TV shows over the years. Michael Worth has also been in a handful of popular shows. As for Natasha Alam, well, you may not know the name but if you watch True Blood you will recognize her as Pam and Eric’s sexy stripper Yvetta.

As for the film itself, I haven’t seen it but it has some pretty decent reviews. Most of the reviews say the same thing, “surprisingly good!” So I sure if you lower the bar and don’t expect a blockbuster film, War Wolves isn’t terrible.

What about you guys, have you seen it? If so what did you think, is it worth our time?

  1. Nice, I’m gonna have to look for it. I haven’t seen it myself, but the reviews indeed have been favorable.

    There’s also another Straight to DVD movie that came out last year… Wolf Moon. I don’t know if you reviewed it. I rented it and found that it was pretty good for a B-Movie, special effects. It’s basic story is a Father and Son who are both werewolves. And the son is battling it out against his father to protect the girl he loves. It’s got some corny moments due to being a B-Movie, but it’s fairly good.

  2. Um, hey there. ^^;
    I know this is totally off-subject, but I thought you might like to see this, if you haven’t already.

  3. I thought War Wolves was actually a good movie. I was hooked at first and that is why I missed my nap. I have seen a lot of B movies and this is not one of them.

  4. I just read something on the topic of she-wolves in “Die Vergessene Bestie” and “The Curse of the Werewolf”. Do you think that in this movie the depictions of the she-wolf stands for the femme fatale or challenges the concept of masculinity?
