Universal Sells Out: Why Make Horror When You Can Make Money?

“We have to mine our resources. We’ve tried over the years to make monster movies — unsuccessfully, actually. So, we […] take it out of the horror genre, put it more in the action-adventure genre and make it present day…”

I’m not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, to be fair, it is cool that we’re going to see some new werewolves on the screen soon. Like… in three years, so maybe not that soon. But WTAF? And that’s not a typo, btw, the “a” is for “absolute” because.. seriously. So why do our classic monsters need to be action heroes? What, no one in Hollywood is talented anymore so there isn’t ONE SINGLE EFFING WRITER capable in the whole of the planet to make werewolves scary? We have to turn werewolves into frigging … comic book heroes? This sure does feel an awful lot like an attempt to cash in on some of those Marvel millions.
