These Werewolves were real bitches!

These lycanthropic women attacked men, boys and cattle, adopting lupine form and slaughtering their victims until 85 of them were apprehended and burnt at the stake in Ostmilich on May 6th, 1591.

It has been said that the European “witch craze” constituted nothing less than a war against women by the church. I’ve read lurid accounts from the Inquisition of female suspects being “examined” for the “devil’s mark” hidden somewhere on their bodies, and in almost every case the good, pious inquisitors had to strip the evil vixen’s clothes off before they found a mole or blemish that would qualify. Then they tortured her until she confessed to whatever “crime” they wanted. It’s despicable. Also despicable is the Malleas Maleficarum, which I’ve also read, the infamous “Hammer for Hammering Witches” that served as the bible (they sure didn’t use the actual one) and how-to manual for witchhunters. No more misogynistic thing has ever been committed to paper.

You ask yourself how they could have been so deluded back then. So ignorant. Or was it that they simply couched their depravities in the name of religion to legitimize them, to camouflage what was really going on, namely that they were beasts? Lascivious beasts, slaking their lust and thirst for blood at the same time. If this story is true and not just an entertaining case of medieval “yellow journalism,” were these poor women werewolves? No. But their tormentors were.
