The Werewolves of Dragon Age

After recently hearing people talk about how amazing the 2009 game Dragon Age: Origins is I thought I’d look into its awesomeness, after all, if people are still excited about a game that came out years ago it’s probably worth looking into. What I discovered is that this hugely popular game has won over 50 awards, which is pretty damn impressive, but on top of that greatness… it has werewolves in it! Check out the details below:

About the popular RPG:

“In Dragon Age: Origins the survival of humanity rests in the hands of those chosen by fate. You are a Grey Warden, one of the last of an ancient order of guardians who have defended the lands on the continent of Thedas throughout the centuries. Betrayed by a trusted general in a critical battle, you must hunt down the traitor and bring him to justice. As you fight your way towards the final confrontation with an evil nemesis, you will face monstrous foes and engage in epic quests to unite the disparate peoples of a world at war. A romance with a seductive shapeshifter may hold the key to victory, or she may be a dangerous diversion from the heart of your mission. To be a leader, you must make ruthless decisions and be willing to sacrifice your friends and loved ones for the greater good.”

About the werewolves in the game:

“Fereldan lore is full of instances where these creatures have plagued the countryside: wolves possessed by rage demons and transformed into humanoid monsters with incredible speed and strength, able to spread a curse to those they bit that would drive them mad with unthinking fury. When in this enraged state, a human host can likewise become possessed and be transformed into a feral, wolf-like beast. Tales differ on these werewolves of human origin, some claiming that their transformation into a bestial form happens uncontrollably. Some claim the transformation is irreversible. As is often the case with demonic tales, both versions were most likely true at some point.”

I haven’t played the game, but from what I am seeing the werewolves don’t play a major role in it. But they do offer up a few kickass sounding quests.

Any game with werewolves in it is instant awesome.

Have any of you played Dragon Age: Origins? Is it as awesome as everyone says it is?

  1. Depending on the way you like to play your games, yes, it’s really awesome. A bit constrictive for an open-world game (think of a series of dungeons with hub cities here and there, enemies in dungeons don’t respawn, but you can go back to the dungeons as often as you like), but the character creation and evolution is absolutely to die for. Dragon Age 2 is even better as far as character creation/evolution.
