‘The Mortal Instruments’ is Coming to Theaters!

January 8th, 2012 § 1

I have been hearing about this movie for over a year now, but it wasn’t until recently that I learned that the books this movie is to be based on have werewolves in them! Of course I had to give the upcoming film some love knowing that. So yes Dear Readers, The Mortal Instruments, the hugely popular series written by Cassandra Clare, is coming to the big screen! Screen Gems bought the rights to City of Bones, the first book in the series, and plans to make the entire series into a film franchise. Woo!

While I have seen these books displayed at every bookstore I go to, I have yet to read them (tsk tsk) so I had no idea that there were werewolves in them until I saw the series pop up on a werewolf book search on Amazon. I’m not sure how big of a role the werewolves play in the books, but either way I’m happy that another film with werewolves is on the way!

The upcoming film, which is simply titled “The Mortal Instruments,” is currently set to hit theaters sometime this year, sadly there is no actual date yet. Actually, there is very little info on the flick. We do know, however, who the leads will be. Clary and Jace, the series big characters, have already been cast! Set to play Clary Fray is Lily Collins, who was in the recent vampire flick Priest, as well as The Blind Side and Abduction with Taylor Lautner. The guy set to play Jace Wayland is Jamie Campbell Bower, who played Caius in the Twilight movies and is also in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

This first film follows the City of Bones.

“When her mom is attacked and taken from their home in New York City by some creature, a seemingly ordinary teenage girl, Clary Fray, finds out truths about her past and bloodline on her quest to get her back, that changes her entire life.”

What do you guys think? Have you read the books, if so, do werewolves play a big role in the series or not? And of course, what do you think about the cast choices so far?
