Joss Whedon shares his thoughts on what it would take to bring a Hulk solo movie back to the big screen.
Joss Whedon, the Maestro of all things Geek, recently said something that I’ve been saying for some time. Not the part about a PLANET HULK movie not working. I think it’s a great idea. I’d certainly drop the ticket price to go see it. Not the part about the audience not liking the Hulk if he’s onscreen for too long at a time, either. I’m a monster movie junkie. I’d love to see a flick with reel-to-reel Hulk action. No, what I’m talking about is Whedon’s observation that the Hulk is in essence a werewolf. No, he doesn’t sprout fur and claws under a full moon. But he fits the bill, just the same.
Rather than being bitten by another werewolf or being the victim of a spell or family curse, Bruce Banner’s affliction began after his exposure to an atomic bomb explosion. When he gets overly emotional, angry, for the most part, then he transforms. Silver bullets won’t hurt the Hulk. No kind of bullets will hurt him. Wolfsbane doesn’t affect him. But what is the Hulk more than the unrestrained Id, pure, primal emotion run wild? What, if not rage personified? Can you get more bestial than that?
