Review: I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER

A confession here at the outset: I don’t know if the creature depicted in the film I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER qualifies as a werewolf, or an alien, or a demon, or an alien werewolf, or an alien demon, or the first cousin of The Thing. All that matters is that this is a monster movie, and a damn fine one at that, and this site is my go-to place for monster movies. Also, the lead actor, Max Records, played Max, the wolf-suit-wearing kid gone feral in WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, so there’s that connection. Records, by the way, has turned into one hell of a gifted thespian. He’s GOOD in this role. Know who else is good? And by “good” I mean truly outstanding? Christopher Lloyd. Mr. Llyod is always likeable, but he typically plays the funny guy, the eccentric, zany type. Who would’ve suspected he could do scary so well? Sympathetic, but scary.

Records’ character is a budding—perhaps—serial killer, a sociopath who worries about his lack of empathy and antisocial behavior. Lloyd is a monster, the aforementioned werewolf/alien/demon thing, who has fallen in love with a human woman and as a result has chosen to remain human. This requires him (it?) to kill people regularly, to harvest their organs to replace his (its?) own failing parts, ala the Creeper in JEEPERS CREEPERS. Based on the novel by Dan Wells, I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER is top-notch, quality Horror. Please lend it your support. Watch it. Talk it up. We need more films like this one.
