Red Riding Hood Trailer Released

We finally have a trailer for Amanda Seyfried’s upcoming film Red Riding Hood. The film is directed Catherine Hardwicke and is very loosely based on the famous fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Ireland, Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Alex Mace and Julie Yorn produced the film for Warner Bros, so you know it’s going to be a big one. On top of Amanda Seyfried, the film also stars Gary Oldman, Luca Haas, Virginia Madsen, Julie Christie and Billy Burke.

“In “Red Riding Hood,” Seyfried plays Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Max Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life. Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. As panic grips the town, Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast-one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect… and bait.”

Do the visual effects look familiar to you? They should, because just as the trailer says, it’s the same director as Twilight, and well, it looks just like Twilight – minus the blue tint. Apparently it’s not just the effects that are bothering people, folks have been calling it “Twilight with a cape.” I think that’s absolutely ridiculous seeing how they’re judging this on a one minute long trailer. Sorry guys, but just because a film has werewolves and romance in it doesn’t mean it’s copying Twilight. Sigh.

Effects aside, I think it looks fairly decent. The girly girl in me digs the romance, the gorgeous men and that short glimpse at the steamy sex scene. I can’t help it. What about you guys, do you think you’ll hitting theaters to catch this flick when it’s released March, 2010?

  4. I saw the trailer when I went to see the new Harry Potter movie… it looks great!

Though I have to comment, it’s from the same Director as Twilight, doesn’t mean it will be “Twilight with a Red Cape”.

If I recall rightly, same Director/Producers of Underworld did the movie Blood & Chocolate. There’s a different between those two… I expect a difference with this movie and infamous Twilight.

I think it will work. Sides, if anyone looks at the history of the story of Red Riding Hood, depending on one’s view & commentary of history, Red Riding Hood can easilly be or is a Werewolf Story. Which’d make this another interpretation of an old story.

  5. It’s not copying ‘Twilight’ because it has werewolves instead of vampires, but it’s definitely in the same ballpark. It looks as though it has the same romantic subplot, and the lighting is only different because it’s in a bright white light like Harry Potter to make everyone look like porcelain dolls. ‘Twilight’ sucked, and this is just Hardwicke’s second attempt at the paranormal.

I mean, come on. That whole “but-I’m-a-monster” thing was stupid the first time it got tried. This is ‘Twilight’ with a cape, and your article just makes that more obvious.

    1. Seriously? The “torn between two lovers” story has been done countless times long before Twilight EVER came out.

  6. The GIRL is the werewolf. WAY too obvious. I’m calling it now. She’s gonna huff and puff and eat Gary Oldman. Just wait and see.
