KOLCHAK, THE NIGHT STALKER, Part Two

Carl Kolchak was a hapless newspaper reporter turned reluctant monster slayer, reluctant in that he ended up having to dispatch the fiend in most episodes because no one else could or would do it. Usually no one else believed the monster even existed, and no one, including Kolchak’s editor, ever believed Kolchak, despite the many vampires, zombies, werewolves, aliens, and other supernatural threats-of-the-week that Kolchak had encountered previously. In that respect the series, KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER, resembled the series that it inspired, THE X-FILES. Honestly, how many creatures from outer space did Skully have to run into before she stopped being a skeptic?

Kolchak once had to battle a werewolf, played by Eric Braeden, the actor who portrays Victor Newman from THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. Another time he found himself pitted against a corrupt politician—is there any other kind?—portrayed by Tom Skerritt, who had gained the ability to transform himself into a Rottweiler by means of a satanic pact. He also had to contend with a giant Indian, played by the decidedly non-Indian Richard Kiel (the character “Jaws” in the James Bond movies), capable of transforming himself into a crow and a coyote. Lots of shapeshifting villains in this series for the lycanthrope fan to enjoy. The whole series is available on DVD, so check it out sometime. You might like it.
