John Landis on ‘Monsters in the Movies’

For those of you that don’t know your werewolf movie history (tsk tsk), John Landis is the brilliant director behind An American Werewolf in London, the werewolf film that completely changed how everyone viewed werewolves on film. The makeup and incredible transformation scene was like nothing anyone had seen before and it continues to this day to be admired for it’s accomplishment. So, if anyone’s going to write a book on all flavors of movie monsters who would be best suited – John Landis of course.

John Landis recently published the book Monsters in the Movies and in it contains all sorts of fantastic info on a wide variety of movie monsters, plus, there are over 1000 pictures and movie posters. Check out the book details below.

“From B-movie bogeymen and outer space oddities to big-budget terrors, Monsters in the Movies by legendary filmmaker John Landis showcases the greatest monsters ever to creep, fly, slither, stalk, or rampage across the Silver Screen!

Landis provides his own fascinating and entertaining insights into the world of moviemaking, while conducting in-depth “conversations” with leading monster makers, including David Cronenberg, Christopher Lee, John Carpenter, and Sam Raimi— to discuss some of the most petrifying monsters ever seen. He also surveys the historical origins of the archetypal monsters, such as vampires, zombies, and werewolves, and takes you behind the scenes to discover the secrets of those special-effects wizards who created such legendary frighteners as King Kong, Dracula, and Halloween’s Michael Myers. With more than 1000 stunning movie stills and posters, this book is sure to keep even the most intense fright-seekers at the edge of their seats for hours!”

I wrote about this incredibly rad book over on Vampires.com and no one seemed to think it was as interesting as me (lame!), but you werewolf fans are different so I’m sharing the monster-filled greatness with you.

What do you guys think? Does it sound like a book you’d pick up? Personally I think it sounds like the perfect book for horror fans to read this lovely Halloween season. I’m going to have to check this one out, it looks amazing.
