Dussssssst in the wind…all we are is dust in the wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind…
We not infrequently talk about pre-humans here on this site. The discerning fan will not need the connection betwixt troglodytes and lycanthropy to be clarified. Our hairier, more bestial ancestors are still, despite the advances of Science, such a collective enigma to us. Why did the Neanderthal die out? DID they die out? Did we interbreed with them? Did we hunt them to extinction? Did THEY hunt US? And what about all the other cousins of our ancient forebears, the Denisovians and the diminutive cannibalistic HOMO FLORESIENSIS and all the others that we haven’t even discovered yet? Fascinating stuff.
There may be a new tool to aid in the study of those hairy hominids. It may no longer be necessary for scientists to dig up bones or stone tools to prove that one or more of those type creatures was living in such and such cave at such and such time. Now it may be possible for us to detect their DNA in the dirt itself. Those Science guys can also detect the remnant DNA of extinct kinds of animals, too, so we can know what those hairy cavemen were eating—or what was eating them, as the case may be.
