Dimples the Mystery Varmint

Werewolves are unfortunately rare in the world today. This necessitates your intrepid reporter, whilst scouring the current headlines, kicking over the moldering metaphorical logs that lie in repose on the great forest floor that is the worldwide web in search of tasty grubs—stories—to chronicle, to include other bizarre manner of creatures, not necessarily lupine in nature. Some roughage to support our staple diet of lycanthropy. Variety is the spice of the paranormal, right? This is a week for bizarre critters, from the “Ghost Panther” of a concurrent article to “Dimples” the . . . Well, that’s the issue. Nobody knows what Dimples is, exactly. It looks kinda like a rat, but eyewitnesses—in this case it is notable that the witnesses are biologists, scientists, and thus should know what they are talking about—say that it doesn’t move like a rat but moves and behaves like a dog. The linked article describes Dimples as having scared people, but fails to mention what, exactly, Dimples has done that is so worrisome. Maybe it is scary simply because nobody knows what it is.

Fans of Forteana may, like me, recall the story of Gef the Talking Mongoose—but that is a story for another time. At this juncture, I just hope they can manage to catch a Dimples (there is bound to be more than one) without harming it, on the chance it might be an unknown species or a mutant of some kind. I wouldn’t recommend they try to catch it by hand, though. I’m betting Dimples got some teeth.
